Disability Studies Minor

UGIS 110: Introduction to Disability Studies focuses on the social and personal meaning of disability and chronic illness. We will explore definitions and conceptual models for the study of disability, the history of disabled people, bio-ethical perspectives, the depiction of disability in literature and the arts, public attitudes, and legal and social policies. The course will investigate the interaction of disability with social factors such as gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, and class. The course is for students with and without disabilities, and may be of special interest to students preparing for careers in the health professions, education, law, architecture, social work, or gerontology.

We are offering a variety of in-person courses this summer including CHEM 1A (General Chemistry), 1AL (General Chemistry Lab), 3A (Organic Chemistry I), 3AL (Organic Chemistry I Lab), 3B (Organic Chemistry II), 3BL (Organic Chemistry Lab II), 32 (Prep for General Chemistry), and 115 (Organic Chemistry - Advanced Laboratory Methods). We also have Stockroom Student Assistant Positions that are ideal for those looking to gain experience handling chemicals, maintaining equipment, and working in a laboratory environment, and Chemistry TA/uGSI positions for all offered courses.

The College of Environmental Design offers several introductory summer programs - open to both UC Berkeley and non-UC Berkeley participants - for those interested in exploring the fields of architecture, landscape architecture and environmental planning, urban design and sustainable city planning. Programs are available for high school and current college students, as well as post-Baccalaureate applicants.
