Transfer Edge
Description
Description
Transfer Edge is a specially designed program for those who have been admitted as transfer students to UC Berkeley for the coming fall. This program gives you an early start on your Cal experience by offering popular required courses as well as courses in your major. This is an opportunity to get to know the campus before the fall rush, and connect with peers at both the Summer Kickoff event and popular co-curricular activities, held throughout the summer, that will give you an inside look into life at UC Berkeley. Transfer Edge participants not only get a head start on their Cal careers, but also save money by paying UC student rates rather than Summer Sessions visiting student rates.
PLEASE NOTE: You cannot apply for Transfer Edge until you have submitted your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) to UC Berkeley. Once you have done so, you will be able to apply through myBerkeleyApp. The 2012 application opens on April 27th and will close June 1 at midnight PST.

Courses
Courses
Transfer Edge courses take place in two sessions: Session C - June 18 to August 10 (eight weeks), and Session D - July 2 to August 10 (six weeks). Students are enrolled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Transfer students may take any of the over 600 courses Summer Sessions offers, including those from lists of specially chosen courses in their major department, and courses chosen to fulfill the American Cultures requirement. You will have the opportunity to register for these courses when filling out the online application.
When considering which classes to take, it may be helpful if you review the general undergraduate graduation requirements. Please keep in mind that each college and school within UC Berkeley has its own requirements. Please check with your specific college, school, and/or major for specific details.
Once you have completed the Transfer Edge application, you can go to the Cal Student Store website and follow the appropriate links for the summer term and courses in which you are enrolled to access a list of both required and recommended books for your class/es.
PLEASE NOTE: All transfer students must consult with their assigned UC Berkeley Office of Undergraduate Admissions officer before enrolling in coursework. In addition, in order to qualify for summer financial aid, you must be enrolled in at least six units.
Activities
Activities
In addition to having the opportunity to take UC Berkeley summer courses, Transfer Edge students have the option to participate in various co-curricular activities. These activities allow students to get to know other transfer students, as well as the UC Berkeley campus. Events range from socials and trips around the Bay Area, to workshops that give students tips on the ins and outs of surviving at Cal and preparing for life after college.
