Dropping All Courses (Canceling and Withdrawing)

Special Program participants

Students participating only in a special program offered by Berkeley Summer Sessions, such as Summer Abroad, Global Internships, Global Edge, Summer Bridge programs, must follow the program policy regarding cancellation and refunds published on their respective sections.

College of Environmental Design Summer Program participants

Students participating in a summer program offered by the College of Environmental Design are subject to the program-specific policies.

 

Cancellation or Withdrawal?

Cancellation means dropping all courses in all sessions before earliest session begins.  You may use CalCentral to cancel.  See the “Cancellation” section below for more details.

Withdrawal means dropping all courses in all sessions after your earliest session begins.  You may use CalCentral to withdrawal.  See the “Withdrawal” section below for more details.

If you wish to drop some but not all of your courses (not cancel or withdraw from Summer Sessions), please see the section on “Dropping Courses”.

 

Cancellation of all courses

Deadline to Cancel Registration

Cancellation means you are dropping all courses in all sessions before your earliest session begins and you initiate the cancellation process. If instruction has begun for one or more of your courses, you will need to request a "Withdrawal" to drop all courses. If you wish to drop some but not all of your courses, please see the section on “Dropping Courses”.

How to cancel

UC and Domestic student info UC Berkeley students registered in spring 2017, or newly admitted to fall 2017, and visiting domestic students:

Prior to the start of the summer term, you may use CalCentral to cancel enrollment by dropping all of your classes before your earliest session begins. After the start of the summer term, you will need to do one of the following in CalCentral:

  • Drop all but one class (CalCentral > My Academics > Class Enrollment > Class Adjustment) and submit “Add a Withdrawal Request” form to drop the last class,

  • Or submit “Add a Withdrawal Request” form multiple times, one per each enrolled session.

What will be refunded after I cancel?

UC and Domestic student infoUC students and domestic visiting students:

You will receive a refund of all fees, minus Cancellation Fee, if fees have already been paid in full. If no payment has been made, all Summer Sessions fees will be removed from CalCentral and a cancellation fee will be assessed. If Financial Aid paid your fees, you will not receive a refund and you will be assessed the Cancellation Fee.

What will the record show?

No courses or notation will appear on your transcript.

 

Withdrawal from all courses

How to Withdraw

UC Domestic and International student info You will need to do one of the following in CalCentral:

  • Drop all but one class (CalCentral > My Academics > Class Enrollment > Class Adjustment) and submit “Add a Withdrawal Request”  form to drop the last class,

  • Or submit “Add a Withdrawal Request” form multiple times, one per each enrolled session.

What will be refunded after I withdraw?

Refund for the course fee will be determined based on the deadline to receive a refund for each class. Refer to summer fees for withdrawal processing fees for each type of student.

No courses or notation will appear on your transcript.
