Transfer Session FAQs

How many classes may I take?
You may enroll in a maximum of ten units each in Session C and Session D.

Am I a Berkeley student in the Summer?
Yes. Because you have been admitted, you are a Berkeley student.

How do I pay for my classes?
As a Berkeley student, you do not pay at the time of enrollment. You will receive a CARS bill for your Summer Sessions fees. CARS bills are sent electronically on e-bill to your Berkeley e-mail address around the third week of the month, and are payable by the 15th of the following month.

Is financial aid available for Summer Sessions classes?
Yes. To determine your aid eligibility, you need to fill out a 2009-2010 FAFSA for financial aid consideration in the summer.

If I filled out a 2010-2011 FAFSA for fall financial aid consideration, do I still have to fill out a 2009—2010 form?
Yes. The 2010-2011 FAFSA will cover your fall/spring financial aid request. However, because of the way that aid is administered at Berkeley, the 2009-2010 FAFSA is required for summer.

What is the deadline for summer financial aid documents?
Visit the FAFSA website for more information.

I feel a bit overwhelmed coming from a community college. Is there any place I can go to get some advice on how to manage my time and work load?
Yes. The Transfer, Re-Entry and Student Parent Center will help you with the transition. They offer mentorship, transition courses, study skill workshops, community study space, social and family events, and a listserv to connect you with other transfer students.

How do I find out what books I need for my summer classes?
Go to the web site Cal Student Store website and follow the appropriate links for the term (summer) and courses in which you are enrolled. It will list there both required and recommended books for your class/es.

If my friend is coming to Summer Session, can we share a room in the residence halls?
Roommate requests can be made when you sign up for your Summer Sessions room with University Housing.

I am staying in the residence halls during session C/D; may I stay in my room for the week between Summer Session and fall move in day?
No. You must vacate your room on the last day of summer session, and move in again on move in day.

I am a commuter student. How can I meet other commuters? Is there anything for me to do between classes?
Visit the Cal Commuters website.

Who should I contact if I have a question about my summer courses?
You should call the Summer Sessions office, (510) 642-5612. They will direct you to the appropriate advisor.
