Application
Applicants must submit an online application, resume and official transcript at summer.berkeley.edu/internship. All applications are reviewed by Summer Sessions in the order received. A non-refundable $300 deposit paid by credit or debit card (with a Visa/MasterCard logo) is required at the time of application.
Admission and Internship Placement
Students are admitted if they have completed one year of college, have at least a 2.0 gpa, and are currently enrolled in a degree program or have graduated within the last 12 months. After applying to the Berkeley Summer Internship Program, applicants are notified no later than April 1 of their admission to the program. Interviews will take place after students have been accepted to the program. Participation in the Berkeley Summer Internship Program does not guarantee placement in an internship. Students that do not receive an offer for an internship are eligible for a refund minus the deposit if they submit a cancellation request by 5:00 p.m. on April 30, 2010.
Withdrawal, Cancellation & Refund
The deposit is not refundable. If a student withdraws from the Berkeley Summer Internship Program, he or she must submit a cancellation request in writing to the Summer Sessions office by 5:00 p.m. on April 30, 2010 to be eligible for a refund of the program fee minus the deposit. If the request is received after April 30, 2010, the student will not be eligible for a refund of the program fee. If the student has not yet made any payment, he or she will owe the program fee.
Regular Summer Sessions refund policies apply to a refund of unit fees. Students can receive a refund of unit fees by dropping, canceling, or withdrawing within the posted Summer Sessions deadlines. Students are required to drop a course by Friday of the first week of instruction to receive a refund of unit fees. If a student withdraws (drops all courses after the start of session) by Friday of the first week of instruction, he or she will be refunded course fees only, minus the processing fee and the campus and class pass fees, if applicable.
Program Components
All students participating in the internship program are required to participate in an internship, complete the online internship course and complete an additional course* related to their internship track. The internship and summer courses are integral components of the program. Students that do not complete the required summer courses will have their internship discontinued.
* Please do not register for courses through Tele-Bears. You will be enrolled in your courses through the internship application process.
International Students
Generally, international students are not eligible. International students must have completed one year of full time study at a college in the United States in the year immediately preceding the tenure of their internship and be authorized for Curricular Practical Training under federal visa regulations to be eligible. If you have not fulfilled this requirement, we regret that you cannot participate.
Internship Reassignment
Internship assignments cannot be changed after the first week of work unless requested by the host organization.
