Letter to High School Counselors

Dear High School Counselor or Teacher,

Your students look to you for guidance as they plan their academic futures. UC Berkeley Summer Sessions offers two special programs to help students prepare for their academic careers beyond high school.

Summer Edge is an award-winning program that gives newly admitted fall freshmen and transfer students an opportunity to learn about life as a Berkeley student before the fall semester starts. By taking prerequisites early, students have more flexibility when planning their fall and spring semesters, and more options to explore different majors and earn units towards graduation.

Enrolling at Berkeley in the summer allows your students to experience a smooth and beneficial transition into university life. For more information, visit the Freshman Edge homepage.

The Pre-Collegiate Program connects your high school students with an exclusive sneak peek at college life. Students can choose from more than 100 specifically selected courses, earn college credit, and attend seminars and social activities with other academically driven high school students. I will also write a personal letter of commendation for students who receive passing grades to add to their college applications. The Pre-Collegiate Program is open to students who have completed 10th or 11th grade with an overall B average.

Thank you for all of your hard work ensuring that students take advantage of the many opportunities available to them. Please contact our staff, who will answer any questions you may have. We look forward to hearing from you.
