International Students

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT CHINA
Please be advised that International Student Exchange in Beijing, China is in no way associated with Berkeley Summer Sessions or the University of California Berkeley.

Enjoy San Francisco while studying at one of the world's great universities.

Berkeley Summer Sessions welcomes students from all over the world—about 2,000 of our more than 14,000 students are visitors from outside the U.S. Here is a chance to experience American culture firsthand and to make friends from the U.S. and other countries.

American education differs from that of other countries. In the U.S., you participate in discussions and projects, do library research, write papers, and take exams. Much of the learning takes place in the classroom.

Living on (or near) campus is a big part of the summer experience. In the residence halls or International House you will meet students from Berkeley, from almost every state in the U.S., and from many other countries.

We encourage you to join us, and to spend time visiting California's many scenic attractions. Enrollment is easy, and the experienced Summer Sessions staff is ready to assist you in any way to make your stay at Berkeley productive and enjoyable.

English Proficiency Requirement
Berkeley Summer Sessions now has an English Proficiency Requirement (EPR) to evaluate the English proficiency of students whose native language is not English and who want to enroll in regular UC Berkeley Summer Sessions' courses (non-ESL courses). All full- and part-time students whose native language is not English are required to submit an English language proficiency test score. Please visit the English Proficiency Requirement page for more information.

Please Note: The English proficiency exam scores are required for record-keeping purposes only and are not criteria for admissions to Berkeley Summer Sessions.
