Students examine the African-Brazilian presence in light of stratification by class and gender, and will make comparisons between the two nations. The program offers lectures, including some from visiting lecturers, group discussions, visit to local religious, cultural, musical, social and educational organizations and a half-day bus tour of both Salvador da Bahia and Rio de Janeiro.
