Freshman Summer Session

Why Freshman Summer Session?

Get a head start
When the fall semester begins, new students will be learning campus procedures and finding their way around, and at the same time registering for classes. Get a head start on your classes and orient yourself to UC Berkeley.

Satisfy Required Courses
By taking required courses during the summer you can free up your fall and spring semester schedule. You'll be able to choose courses from two sessions (June 23 to August 15 and July 7 to August 15).

Make friends
During the program's kickoff event, you will begin to make friends and build a community with your freshmen peers. Throughout the program, many co-curricular activities and events will provide additional opportunities to socialize, get to know the area, volunteer in community projects, and develop leadership skills.

Save money
You will be charged the UC student rates ($243 per unit and a $108 campus fee) rather than Summer Sessions visiting student rates ($270 per unit and a $385 registration fee). Even non-California resident freshman get the $243 per unit rate.
