INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS WITH AN F-1 VISA

Enjoy UC Berkeley this summer

Berkeley Summer Sessions considers the following students to be “visiting U.S. college students” instead of “international students”. For these students there are no out-of-state or international service fees, and a Certificate of Eligibility from UC Berkeley is not required:

1. Students who are studying at institution A in the spring, attend Berkeley Summer Sessions in the summer, and return to institution A in the fall semester.

2. Students who are studying at institution A in the spring, attend Berkeley Summer Sessions, and attend institution B in the fall semester (as long as there are no more than five months between your end date at institution A and institution B—ask your advisor at institution A to transfer your I-20 to institution B).

The following students with F-1 visas are required to obtain an I-20 from UC Berkeley and not considered “visiting U.S. college students”:

1. Students who studied at institution A, attend Berkeley Summer Sessions, and need an I-20 to maintain status in the summer.

2. Students who have already received an I-20 to study at institution A in fall 2010, but will attend Berkeley Summer Sessions first must enter the U. S. with the UC Berkeley I-20 and visa.
